Collectors Club: My VfB Stuttgart Football Shirt Collection

Matthias lives in Stuttgart Germany and has more than 420 Stuttgart shirts in his collection which grows weekly.

Why Stuttgart?

I live in Stuttgart and was brought up as a Die Roten fan. I live close to the stadium and have been travelling to watch matches since I was 10 years old. I have had a season ticket since 1993 and have been to every home and away match since 2000. You could call me a super fan!

What was the first shirt in your collection?

The first match worn shirt in my collection was worn by Roberto Pinto against Bayern München on 4th Match 2000. It is obviously a very special shirt in my collection as it was my first but it is also fitting that it was worn by a player born in Stuttgart. The game was great and we beat the biggest team in Germany 2-1.

Which is your favourite shirt?

My favourite shirt has to be the shirt from 1926-1935. It is the most valuable in my collection as far as I know there are only three Stuttgart shirts in circulation from this era (please let me know if you know of any others ?). Unfortunately it is not possible to find the exact matches which the shirt was used in.

Any other special shirts?

Yes. I do have a shirt worn by Stuttgart that has the famous Adidas template worn by the great Germany team at the 1990 World Cup. The shirt was worn in the 1988-89 UEFA Cup First round match against FC Tatabánya. It is not only special because of the design, we made it to the Final of the competition this season narrowly missing out on the trophy to Napoli over the two-legged tie.
